Martina graduated from Utopia Academy’s 3000 hour Registered Massage Therapy Program in Vancouver, BC. Her graduating case study, which focused on the use of myofascial release therapy to decrease the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, was awarded second place by the Massage Therapists’ Association of BC in the summer 2012 competition.

Prior to massage therapy Martina enjoyed an active lifestyle in Whistler snowboarding, hiking, dirt biking, and pursing a love of the outdoors. With these activities came injuries and thus began her own journey of therapy involving massage, physiotherapy, chiropractic, naturopathy, and the practice of yoga. Martina is grateful for these experiences and understands first hand how a joint effort between therapist and client, as well as an integrated approach to therapy, can achieve long lasting results.

Within her practice, techniques used include relaxing swedish massage, myofascial release, GTO release, trigger point therapy, passive and active stretching, and patient education. Her treatment approach is tailored to the individual, using light to deep pressure depending upon the preference and needs of the client.

Martina is constantly improving her knowledge base and looks forward to continuing her studies. A life-long interest in health and a belief in the body’s ability to heal itself keeps her enthusiastic in helping you achieve your health and wellness goal.

The breath… so simple, so essential, yet so often taken for granted. It is what can bring us from a state of anxiety into a deep state of relaxation within mere seconds. However, the breath in conjunction with massage can produce an even more powerful therapeutic outcome. In order for the body’s natural healing mechanisms to awaken, it must be brought into a state of ease – as opposed to the very common state of unease or dis-ease that so many of us live from today. It is for this reason that Brendan puts a strong focus on breathing and relaxation during his treatments.

Brendan graduated on the Dean’s List at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy. His critical mind has developed a keen interest in orthopedics and myofascial release intertwined with the relaxing and stimulating effects of Swedish and sports massage. Through the years, he has also developed a high-level of professionalism and empathy, both of which help to create a safe environment for all.

Brendan believes that therapists are only catalysts to helping others achieve their optimal level of health. Aside from helping clients accomplish their short- and long-term health goals, his mandate is to empower each of them to take full responsibility for their health and life outside of the clinic room.

In his free time, Brendan enjoys organic gardening, playing volleyball, practicing yoga, lifting weights, and exploring nature and the outdoors locally and overseas. He strives for balance in all aspects of life.

Sophie realized at a young age that she was meant to work with her hands. She knew she was not cut out for desk work – all that sitting would drive her crazy! After a few years waitressing (okay, maybe more than a few), she went through BCIT’s Women in Trades program, and discovered she had a knack for plumbing. But as much as she enjoyed working with her hands in this capacity, it still wasn’t a perfect fit.

A chance conversation about massage school with a friend turned out to be the catalyst for Sophie to apply to Utopia Academy. She was accepted to the program, bought a massage table, and has never look back! Sophie graduated from Vancouver’s Utopia Academy 3000 Hour Massage Therapy program in May 2011.

Sophie believes massage is an important part of self-care, and that time spent “on the table” is your time – to reconnect with your body, and give yourself a break. Regular massage is a simple and enjoyable way to reduce stress. Sophie relies on a variety of techniques including traditional Swedish, myofascial release, joint play techniques and trigger point therapy to treat your body’s ailments. She incorporates specific treatment of your main complaint into a relaxing and calming massage.

In the spring and summer Sophie spends her free time paddling outrigger canoes, and in the fall and winter you will often find her curling (the sport played on ice with rocks, not the kind of curling you do with hair).

As of 2015, Sophie has become Graston© Certified.

Mitchell’s ability to quickly assess and problem solve an individual’s unique needs set him apart from other therapists. Rodrigo Zimmermann is passionate about caring for others and participating with patients in the process of improving their mobility and overall wellness.

He believes the body is a vehicle that shapes our experience of life and through his studies to become an RMT at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (VCMT), he had the opportunity to observe how beautifully complex and intrinsic our body is.

He learned an array of techniques, such as Swedish, Myofascial release, Orthopedic, Sports Massage, and Neuromuscular techniques, which have enabled him to contribute to the process of helping his patients find physical, mental, and emotional balance. His treatment style focuses on putting the patient in a parasympathetic state so that the body can rest from and digest all the challenges, pain, and anxiety of daily life.

Rodrigo enjoys Martial Arts and gymnastics, having practiced Karate and Kung fu for around 11 years. Through the practice of martial arts, he grew an interest in how movement intrinsically affects our whole body and how our nervous system plays a role in it.
